Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the questions we hear most from businesses looking to understand how Etcher Solutions operates, what our services involve, and how we can support your team.

Everything you need to know about how Etcher works, what we offer, and how to get started.

General

  • What does Etcher Solutions do?
We work alongside businesses to help them operate better, stay compliant, and get more out of their systems and teams. That covers a lot of ground: strategic advice, process improvement, compliance support, systems implementation, and day-to-day operational execution. We work with clients on an ongoing retained basis and on clearly scoped one-off projects.
  • Do you work with clients outside Perth?
Yes, and we do it regularly. We're based in Perth but we support businesses right across Australia. Our services work just as well remotely as they do on-site, so location isn't a barrier.
  • What makes Etcher different from other consultants or agencies?
We don't hand over a report and leave. We get involved in the actual work, learn how your business runs, and deliver things that fit your reality rather than a textbook template. Whether the engagement is retained or project-based, you'll find us practical, direct, and focused on outcomes you can actually see.
  • Do you offer one-off projects or only ongoing support?
Both. Some clients come to us for a specific piece of work, like a site audit, a system implementation, or a compliance review, and that's the whole engagement. Others want us around on an ongoing basis for continuous support and improvement. We'll help you figure out which model makes sense for where you're at.
  • How do we get started with Etcher Solutions?
The first step is a conversation. We'll take the time to understand what you're dealing with, what you need, and what a good outcome looks like for your business. From there we'll recommend an approach and be clear about next steps before anything gets started.

Retained Services

  • What types of work are suited to a retained engagement?
Retainers suit businesses with ongoing or shifting needs, things like operational support, compliance oversight, continuous improvement, advisory input, or regular delivery across a few different areas. The main benefit is having consistent access to our team without the overhead of a full-time hire or the delays of re-scoping every time something new comes up.
  • What does a typical month on retainer look like?
We start each month by agreeing on what to focus on, then we get on with delivering it. Alongside planned work, we handle requests as they come in, track progress, and check in regularly to see what's working and where priorities might have shifted. The idea is to keep things moving without putting the admin burden back on you.
  • Can retained services support internal teams?
Yes, and we do this quite often. We can plug into an existing team to add capacity, provide specialist input, or give oversight in areas where the team is stretched. It's especially useful during periods of growth, change, or unusually high workload when you need support without committing to a permanent hire.

Systems & Technology Implementation

  • Are you an accredited Humanz implementation partner?
Yes. Etcher Solutions is an accredited Humanz implementation partner. Rather than a basic referral arrangement, we actually get into your business and learn how it operates before any configuration starts. That means Humanz ends up set up to reflect how your team works, not some generic template we've recycled from another client. The result is a platform people actually use and trust from day one.
  • Can you implement safety and compliance systems like Donesafe or Lucidity?
Yes. We work with safety and compliance platforms including Donesafe and Lucidity, as well as workforce and field management tools like Assignar and MEX. Getting the software switched on is only part of it. We make sure the system is configured for your actual compliance obligations and site requirements, and that your team knows how to use it properly before we step back.
  • Do you implement Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, or Dynamics 365?
Yes. We work across the full Microsoft ecosystem including Power Platform, SharePoint, and Dynamics 365. A lot of businesses already have access to these tools but aren't getting much out of them. We help you build workflows, automate routine processes, centralise documentation, and get better visibility across operations using what you already pay for. Everything is scoped to your environment and built so your team can maintain it going forward.
  • Can you help integrate our finance systems like Xero or MYOB with other operational tools?
Yes. We work with finance and accounting platforms like Xero and MYOB, alongside HR systems like BambooHR and JobAdder, and operational tools like Monday.com and Zoho. When these systems don't connect properly, you end up with double handling, data gaps, and decisions made on incomplete information. We assess what's possible, remove the silos, and build a connected environment that gives your leadership team a clearer picture of what's actually happening.
  • What does a systems implementation project with Etcher look like from start to finish?
We start by getting a real understanding of how your business operates: its structure, workflows, compliance obligations, and where your current systems are letting you down. From there we scope the implementation, handle configuration, manage data migration where it's needed, and work through testing and rollout with your team. We don't hand over a system and disappear. We stay involved to make sure adoption happens, sort out issues as they come up, and make sure your team feels confident in what they're using. Implementations can run as a standalone project or as part of a retained engagement.

Ad-hoc Projects and Services

  • What types of one-off or short-term projects do you deliver?
Quite a range. Site audits, HSEQ and compliance support, systems implementation, tender and proposal support, process reviews, digital builds, and strategic planning are all common. Whatever the work is, we scope it clearly upfront so you know exactly what you're getting and when.
  • Can you help with audits, compliance, or systems implementation?
Yes. We support audits, HSEQ frameworks, onboarding processes, system selection, and full implementation. We're focused on outcomes that actually work in practice, not documentation that looks good but doesn't fit how your business operates.
  • Can a one-off project lead into ongoing support?
Absolutely. Some clients come to us for a single project and then move into a retained arrangement once they see what ongoing support looks like. Others only ever need us for specific pieces of work. There's no pressure to continue beyond what was agreed.

ISO Certification

  • What is Triple ISO certification (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)?
Triple ISO certification brings together three internationally recognised standards into a single integrated management system. ISO 9001 covers Quality Management, ISO 14001 covers Environmental Management, and ISO 45001 covers Occupational Health and Safety. Instead of running three separate compliance programs, businesses manage all three through one framework, which makes day-to-day operations and audit preparation a lot simpler.
  • Do I need to build systems from scratch to get ISO certified?

Not usually. Most businesses already have processes that are closer to ISO requirements than they realise. The starting point is typically a gap assessment, where we compare what you have now against the relevant standards and identify what's missing or needs strengthening.

We build on what already works rather than tearing everything down and starting over. The goal is a practical, audit-ready system, not a mountain of documentation your team won't use.

  • How long does ISO certification take in Australia?

It varies depending on the size of your business, how complex your operations are, and what documentation and systems you already have in place. A business with good existing processes can move through the preparation phase relatively quickly. Others need more structured development work before they're ready for a certification audit.

We focus on efficient delivery and work around your operations so the certification process doesn't create unnecessary disruption for your team.

  • What does Etcher Solutions include in ISO consulting and compliance support?

We cover the full process: gap assessments, system design, documentation development, implementation, and audit preparation. We don't hand over a folder of templates and leave you to figure out the rest.

We work alongside you to build ISO-aligned systems that actually reflect how your business operates and that your team can maintain long after the certification is done.

  • What are the business benefits of ISO certification?

Certification helps businesses improve efficiency, manage risk, and show clients and partners that they operate to a recognised international standard. It strengthens your credibility, supports tender applications, and gives you a structured way to keep improving over time.

In many industries, ISO certification isn't just a nice-to-have. It's a genuine requirement for winning contracts and working with larger organisations.

HSE Management

  • What does HSE management support from Etcher Solutions include?

We provide hands-on HSE support covering HSEQ documentation, incident and near-miss registers, risk assessments, safe work method statements (SWMS), inspection records, and ongoing compliance administration. We work as part of your team to keep your systems current, audit-ready, and aligned with Australian regulatory requirements.

Support is available on a retained basis or as a scoped project, depending on what you need.

  • Can you build our HSE documentation and systems from scratch?
Yes. Most businesses already have some HSE processes in place, so we start by assessing what exists, identifying gaps, and building or improving things from there. Where documentation genuinely needs to be developed from scratch, we handle that too, creating registers, templates, and procedures that are practical to use and matched to your specific risk environment.
  • What industries do you provide HSE management support for?
We work with businesses across construction, mining, crane and heavy lift, contracting, facilities management, and other high-risk industries. Our HSE support is built around the actual regulatory requirements and site conditions of each industry rather than a generic framework applied across the board.
  • How does Etcher help with HSEQ compliance in Western Australia?

We help businesses meet their obligations under Western Australian work health and safety legislation, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and relevant codes of practice. That covers maintaining required documentation, preparing for WorkSafe inspections, managing incident reporting, and building systems that support ongoing compliance without putting too much pressure on your internal team.

We also support businesses with compliance across multiple Australian jurisdictions for those operating nationally.

  • Can Etcher manage ongoing HSE administration for our business?
Yes, and this is one of the most common ways businesses work with us. We handle day-to-day HSE administration including document control, register maintenance, subcontractor compliance checks, induction records, and reporting. A retained arrangement gives you consistent compliance oversight without the cost of a full-time internal resource.

Crane Industry & Heavy Lift

  • What crane industry compliance support does Etcher Solutions provide?

We provide business systems, compliance administration, and operational support specifically for crane hire companies, riggers, and heavy lift operators. That includes plant registration records, maintenance schedules, pre-start checklists, operator licence and high-risk work card registers, inspection records, lift plans, and subcontractor compliance documentation.

We know the compliance environment of the crane industry well, and we build systems that hold up under audit, client review, and the demands of daily operations.

  • What records and registers do crane businesses need to maintain?
Crane and heavy lift businesses need to keep on top of a lot: plant registration and inspection logs, operator high-risk work licences (HRWL), pre-start inspection checklists, maintenance records, lift studies and lift plans, incident and near-miss reports, and subcontractor compliance documentation. We help businesses build and maintain these registers in a format that works for both field teams and office staff and that's ready when an audit or client review comes around.
  • How does Etcher Solutions help crane hire companies stay compliant?
We work alongside crane hire businesses to organise and maintain the documentation and systems that compliance depends on. That means keeping records current, tracking expiry dates for licences and registrations, preparing documentation for audits and client prequalification, and building processes your team can actually follow consistently in the field and office. We know the compliance demands of this industry and can move quickly without needing a long onboarding period.
  • Do you help manage high-risk work licence (HRWL) records and plant registrations?
Yes. Keeping track of high-risk work licences, plant registrations, and scheduled inspection dates is one of the most common gaps we find when we start working with crane businesses. We build and maintain registers that flag upcoming renewals and expiries so nothing slips through. This matters even more for businesses managing multiple cranes, operators, or sites.
  • Can Etcher help our crane business achieve ISO 9001, 14001, or 45001 certification?
Yes. We support crane and heavy lift businesses through Triple ISO certification, covering ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety). We build on your existing systems, develop the documentation you need, and get your business ready for the certification audit. A lot of crane companies pursue ISO certification to meet client prequalification requirements or to put themselves in a stronger position on tenders.
